2017 - Our First Year in Review

Now the club has its own website, we can finally begin sharing the news and views that were previously only available on our private members' page. What better way to start than by looking back over the first year of the club.

I'm very proud of what we achieved in 2017 - we dreamed up this new club concept at the end of 2016  as a way of sharing our passion for whisky while learning more about our favourite drink. By January the members' page was up and running on Facebook and we were able to attract a small but passionate group of members to establish the club. We sent out a fantastic selection of whiskies during the next 12 months, including some legendary dram I'd always wanted to try myself (such as the Redbreast 21). The competition to identify the correct whiskies has at times been competitive but friendly as our members shared tips to help each other pick out the notes. We've been taken aback at just how accurate some of our members have been - one member identified over 80% of the whiskies correctly!

Our Members' Choice award, given to the highest rated whisky of the year, was Glenfarclas 25, a bold and characterful single malt with an almost everlasting finish. This was closely followed by Glenmorangie Bacalta and Yamazaki 12. Our best value award has to go to the Bowmore 9 Sherry Cask which received some great feedback whilst being the least expensive bottle we sent out.

We learnt lots during the course of the year, and received enough encouragement from our members that we thought we shoud try to expand the club.  We now have the website, a new whisky pouch that will  keep packing and postage prices at a minimum (allowing us to spend more on whisky), and an expanding and enthusiastic member base.

Looking forward to 2018; the excitement of taking it the club to the next level, and of course the whiskies that we'll get to sample!
